Fact: In Manitoba, West Nile Virus (WNV) is transmitted to humans primarily by the Culex tarsalis mosquito, usually through late June, July, August and September. The risk varies from year to year based on precipitation, temperature, mosquito population and other factors.
In some cases the virus causes serious illness and sometimes death. There is no specific treatment, medication or cure for West Nile Virus. The best way to reduce the risk of infection is to reduce the risk of mosquito bites.
